When Canon announced their latest DSLR cameras this week, the full frame Canon EOS 5DS which boasts 50 megapixel resolution, photographers had some pretty mixed responses on social media. Most were pretty excited about Canon’s latest DSLR which has the highest resolution of any current 35mm digital camera, but lots have been asking the question, “How many megapixels do you really need?”
It looks like the megapixel war among the top camera brands is heating up again, with Sony and Nikon, the previous frontrunners among full frame 35mm digital cameras left in the dust — for now. But for the vast majority of photographers, is having a huge megapixel count really beneficial to their workflow? More megapixels means bigger file sizes, which translates into a need for more file storage space and more processing power to work on the huge RAW files these cameras output.
What do you think? Are you yearning for more megapixels, or are you happy with your current camera?
